Welcome to Guillotine Source
Guillotine machines, renowned for their clean finish when cutting sheet metal, used to be hand or foot operated, but are increasingly motor powered.
A metal guillotine works by driving down an angled blade so that it slices the raw material along the length of the cut. It’s all part of what is known as a fracturing process - the blade partially cuts through the metal, but the final separation is due to the material fracturing.
Some materials – like stainless steel - fracture more readily than softer ones like brass, which can influence the effectiveness of the guillotine.
Before you buy, bear in mind that the angle of the cutting blade – also known as the shear - will depend on the capacity of the machine and the thickness of the material you use. The thicker the material is, the greater the angle and clearance given to the blades.
Guillotines range from small models used by jewellers and hobbyists to the large, heavy duty bench guillotine used in industry.
